Sign Language Week: British Sign Language Masterclass

In this session we’ll look at the types of Deafness and statistics surrounding it and delve into the world of British Sign Language (BSL), which is the language of the British Deaf Community.

We will explore what BSL is, how it is structured and how it is therefore different from English. We will ask if sing language is the same across the world - and how it might differ. We’ll be dispelling some myths around Makaton and BSL and the main differences between the two.

We will look further in to what we need to think about when we use BSL and when we learn to sign. finishing with teaching some initial Meet and Greet basic BSL phrases to take away.
