Global Day Of Parents

Why we need to challenge gender stereotypes from birth

Join us to explore just how pervasive gender stereotypes are, where we find them, and the small changes we can make in order to challenge them (without falling out with family and friends!).

Ever heard a parent say ‘she’s such a girly girl’ or a teacher say ‘boys don’t like reading books with girls as lead characters’?

In this session Clare will explore how this thinking comes about. Just how early gender stereotypes are ingrained and the long term impact they have.

She will talk about language, clothes, books and play, and why we should be conscious of how we interact with children from birth.

Clare’s talk is for parents, soon to be parents, anyone who works with or is around children, and anyone who is wondering why gender stereotypes are still playing out in the workplace.
