Black Baby loss Awareness Week

Download poster

Most of us take it for granted how easy it is to have a baby. It is something that comes so naturally to so many of us. Now imagine, just because of the colour of your skin, your chances of this happening is dramatically reduced. This is the reality for many people. A black woman is almost 4x as likely to die during childbirth or within 6 weeks of having her baby compared to her pregnant white work colleague.

If you are a baby of colour you are already at a disadvantage in the womb compared to your next door neighbours white baby. And yet this is still such a taboo subject. Black Babyloss awareness week was founded in 2023 to highlight the huge disparities in our maternity service in the UK. Something that has been our reality for far too long!
